The Top Garden Trends for 2025

Happy 2025! I’m so excited for this new growing season and can’t wait to help you create a garden that uplifts, connects, and grows alongside you.

I’ve gathered inspiration from my favorite sources to curate a list of top garden trends for the year ahead.

I hope it sparks fresh ideas and inspires you to sprinkle a little extra magic into your garden!

2025 Trends

1) 'Nativars'-The Rise of Native Plants

Native plants are at the top of the list as we gardeners learn more about the advantages of biodiversity and sustainability. These resilient beauties support local ecosystems for tiny creatures.

Adding a few natives is a great way to familiarize yourself with these hardworking low maintenance gems.

Below is Goats Beard, a back of the garden must-have, one of my favs. It’s like the chicest 4th of July vibes!

2) Redefining Perfection

Perfection is being reimagined (YES!)

Resist snipping in the garden. It’s time to embrace a less tidy garden with seed heads, mulched leaves, and faded perennials left in the garden to support wildlife and create vibrant spaces.

I will be chopping down my garden on Valentine’s Day. Until then it’s a buffet for the little ones.

3) Low-Water Landscapes can be exciting

Drought-tolerant gardens can be lush, colorful, and vibrant with minimal water. Space your plants more closely than usual and choose a rich pallet of colors.

Rich colors of alchemilla, lavender, and hopleys purple oregano.

4) Make a Sanctuary

Gardens are sanctuaries for relaxation, with spaces for quiet seating, cozy firepits, and my fav features like fragrant plants and water elements.

5) Biophilic Spaces

A fancy term for gardens seen as extensions of living spaces, blending indoor comfort with nature.

Try bringing your garden right up to your home.

Planters are a wonderful way to snuggle plants up to your doors and windows.

6) Maximalist Planting Designs

I jumped for joy when I read about the new trend for maximalism in the garden! For those of you who know me, you know this needs no explanation. I believe in the sheer power of plants, and the more, the better! Imagine your garden bursting with vibrant, bold plants, where textures, shapes, and colors co-mingle. A true feast for the eyes and heart!

Get to know your local nurseries and make connections with the staff, they’re a goldmine of advice!

Pssst….

Coming this March, my garden will be featured in a new book:

Garden to the Max by Timber Press features incredible gardens from across America! There’s so much to look forward to.

Stay tuned for more details;it's going to be a wild, colorful 2025!

Plant Pairing #9

Hellebore

Not a pairing, but rather a ‘fill-in-the-blank’ suggestion! If you spot any blank spots in your garden that could use a little cheer, consider adding a gorgeous Hellebore, aka the Christmas Rose.

Take this opportunity, regardless of your growing zone, to evaluate where your garden might need a pop of color or a touch of evergreen. Head to your favorite nursery and check out what’s blooming right now. And don’t stop at just one,buy at least three to make a real impact!

Together, let’s make spaces that uplift, connect, and grow.

If you’d like advice on how to incorporate any of these trends into your garden, drop me a note with your question—I’d love to help!

Cheers to a blooming 2025!

Get Dirty,…. and inspired
